Waco
Waco, Texas
Waco is home to Baylor University - which includes the popular Mayborn Museum - and is the birthplace of Dr Pepper. But there's much more to Waco than just those two institutions.
The Brazos River flows through Waco, giving the city the chance to create its own River Walk. Part of that walk is the Waco Suspension Bridge built in 1870 and now used only for foot traffic.
Cameron Park is a nearly 500-acre city park alongside the Brazos. Included in the park is the Cameron Park Zoo, one of the more highly regarded zoos to be found in any mid-sized U.S. city.
Arts and crafts are big in Waco, with the Art Center Waco, Homestead Heritage crafts village, the Earle-Harrison House and Pape Gardens, and the Martin Museum of Art.
Sports enthusiasts have all the Baylor athletic team competitions to consider. Bear Ridge and Cottonwood Creek are excellent golf courses. And Waco is home to the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.
You'll also find the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame (the lawmen, not the baseball team). And, of course, the Dr Pepper Museum, which traces the Waco origins of the popular beverage and includes a restored soda fountain.

Getting to Waco
Waco sits along Interstate 35, about equidistant on the road between Austin and Dallas-Fort Worth (north of Austin, south of DFW). U.S. Highway 84 is the main east-west artery passing through Waco. Texas Highway 6 leads southeast to Bryan-College Station.
The Waco Regional Airport is served by American Eagle and Continental Connection, American connecting through Dallas and Continental through Houston. Waco's proximity to both Austin and Dallas make flying into those cities and driving to Waco an option.
