Abilene - West Texas Fair and Rodeo
Amarillo - Tri-State Fair
Anahuac - Texas Gatorfest
In mid-month, the Texas Gatorfest feature arts and crafts, carnival rides and alligator roundup, plus food and other fun.
Aransas Pass - Shrimporee
The Aransas Pass Shrimporee is the largest shrimp festival in the state. The event features live entertainment and dancing all weekend, plus culinary events, children's activities, and, of course, shrimp served every way imaginable.
Boerne - Kendall County Fair
Held every Labor Day weekend at the Kendall County Fairgrounds. Celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2005. Features a carnival, rodeo and parade, plus plenty of food and music.
Brenham - Washington County Fair
Caldwell - Kolache Festival
Corpus Christi - Bayfest
Dallas - State Fair of Texas
Del Rio - Diez y Seis de Septiembre Celebration
Eastland - Old Rip" Fest
The "Old Rip" Fest is a 1-day fair near mid-month whose biggest attraction - at least for me - is the horned toad racing (or, as most Texans say, "horny" toads).
El Paso - Southwestern Livestock Show and Rodeo
It's the oldest annual event in El Paso. It runs three weeks, and it use to be held in January-February, but in 2006 has shifted to September. Dozens of rodeo performances, plus stock shows and auction, live music and family entertainment.
Hallettsville - Hallettsville Kolache Fest and Parade
A celebration of Czech and German music, food and fun.
Lakehills - Medina Lake Cajun Festival and Great Gumbo Cookoff
A one-day event that features Cajun music - performed by bands traveling in from Louisiana - and authentically prepared Cajun food. Also, carnival-style games and arts and craft vendors.
Lubbock - Panhandle South Plains Fair
Lufkin - Texas Forest Festival
Odessa - Permian Basin Fair and Expo
Plano - Balloon Festival
Rockport/Fulton - Hummer/Bird Celebration
West - Westfest
Westfest takes place every Labor Day weekend in this city located north of Waco. It features Czech food, polka, arts and crafts, Czech dancers in costume, and a Saturday morning parade, among other events.
