About the Museum of the Southwest:
The Museum of the Southwest offers a mix of art and science. It is housed in the Turner Mansion, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and in addition to the art and science displays in the main building, the Museum of the Southwest complex also includes the Fredda Turner Durham Children's Museum and the Marian Blakemore Planetarium.
The collection of the Museum of the Southwest focuses on the art and archeology of the American Southwest. In addition to its permanent collection, the museum hosts traveling and temporary exhibits focused on a wide range of artistic disciplines and topics.
The lushly landscaped grounds of the Museum of the Southwest also serve to host numerous community events throughout the year, including Summer Sunday Lawn Concerts and the Septemberfest festival.

The Museum of the Southwest is open Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sundays 2-5 p.m. Admission is free (small fees apply to the children's museum and planetarium programs).
