Galveston
Galveston, Texas
The city of Galveston is on Galveston Island, a barrier island south of Houston that averages just two miles in width, but offers 32 miles of beaches.
Galveston is known for more than its great beaches, however. There's also the great weather, averaging 81 degrees in summer and 57 degrees in winter. And Galveston Island is one of the best birding spots in the U.S.
The island and city have some great history. There are three National Historic Landmarks on the island, the city boasts more than 1,500 buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. Moody Gardens is one of the top tourist attractions in the Greater Houston Area.
