About the Fire Museum of Texas:
This is the official fire museum of the State of Texas. It showcases a wealth of firefighting history, artifacts and objects, including the world's largest fire hydrant.
The Fire Museum of Texas is housed in the 1927 Beaumont Fire Department headquarters, where the Beaumont Fire Department still operates today.
Among the many displays are a Chinese hand pump from 1779; a horse-drawn fire wagon; a hand-drawn tub pumper from 1856; an 1879 steamer; and the county’s first searchlight truck (developed in Beaumont in 1931).
Kids are likely to enjoy this museum, too, since they are able to climb aboard some of the fire trucks on display and try on some of the historic firefighting uniforms.
The Fire Museum of Texas is open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Admission is free.
