About the Cameron Park Zoo:
Cameron Park Zoo covers 52 acres in Waco's Cameron Park, one of the largest undeveloped municipal parks in the country. The park and the zoo sit adjacent to the Brazos River.

Cameron Park Zoo is full of lush vegetation, with winding paths leading to lakes, ponds and even a waterfall. And, of course, to hundreds of animals.

The Brazos River Country exhibit, according to the zoo's website, "begins as visitors enter the hull of a sunken Spanish galleon. Once inside, they will discover a 50,000-gallon saltwater coral reef aquarium featuring fish native to the Flower Garden Reef in the Gulf of Mexico. They exit the ship onto a boardwalk over a sandy beach, home to pelicans, gulls, and other coastal birds."

There are exhibits dedicated to South American species, lemurs, a family of gibbons, a Herpetarium (snakes!), rain forest and desert areas. Pride Rock is where the lions enjoy lounging in the sun. The African Savannah area includes giraffes, rhinos and elephants.

In addition to the animals, the Cameron Park Zoo includes several cafes and numerous food and drink stands, and of course, a gift shop.

The admission fee is pretty modest for attractions such as these (well under $10 at the time of this writing). The zoo is open Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and on Sundays from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; it is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's, plus the last Friday and Saturday of June.
